That’s how this pin board came to life. I imagined it, designed it, and built it step by step, with a lot of intention and a little patience. I wanted something that wouldn’t feel static, but instead could change over time, growing alongside my projects, moods, and creative energy.

This DIY pin board is simple to make, but deeply personal — a piece that brings meaning as well as beauty into a space.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Choosing the Base

I started by selecting an MDF board as the base. I wanted the pin board to feel bold and architectural, so I chose a 2-meter-high panel. The large scale instantly turns it into a statement piece while offering plenty of space for creativity.

Step 2: Adding the Cork Layer

Next, I glued a layer of cork onto the MDF. Cork is perfect for pinning without damaging the surface, and it keeps the board practical for everyday use. This layer is what truly makes the pin board functional.

Step 3: Covering with Fabric

To soften the look and add texture, I covered the entire board with linen fabric. The natural feel of linen brings warmth and calm, balancing the structured base underneath. I carefully stretched the fabric and stapled it to the back for a clean, secure finish.

Step 4: Creating the Inspiration Layout

Once the structure was complete, I began adding the elements that give the board its soul. Photos, words, images, and small reminders found their place organically. This step is intuitive and constantly evolving — nothing is permanent, and that’s the beauty of it.

Step 5: Adding a Pocket for Positive Thoughts

As a final touch, I created a small fabric pocket filled with positive thoughts. On days when I need a little extra encouragement, I can pull one out 🤍 A simple detail, but one that adds so much emotional value.

This pin board has become much more than a decorative object. It’s a living wall — one that will continue to change with the seasons, ideas, and dreams 🪐

Would this actually work?

I was curious myself.

Before buying a new sofa, it’s worth taking a closer look: what’s still possible? That’s exactly the question I asked myself. With three kids and a dog, stains happen quickly and a sofa can start to look old much faster than it actually is. Buying a new one is always an option, but I wanted to see if there was another way.

So I decided to reupholster my sofa myself. No experience, no help – I just got started. And the result honestly surprised me: after just 3 hours, my sofa looked like new again – sustainable and budget-friendly.

Step by step

Step 1: Measure your sofa

First, measure your entire sofa carefully. Make sure to plan for extra fabric, especially for edges and stapling, where you can add around 40 cm. It’s always better to buy a little more fabric than not enough. I had about 50 cm left over from my 9 meters in the end. If you still have original measurements from when you bought the sofa, they can be helpful as a reference.

Step 2: Choosing the right fabric

I chose a teddy fabric because it’s soft, cozy, and slightly stretchy. This makes it much easier to pull tight and smooth out. For sofas in particular, this is a big advantage, as stiffer fabrics tend to wrinkle more easily and are harder to work with.

Step 3: Take the sofa apart

Don’t worry, this sounds more complicated than it is. Most sofas can actually be opened quite easily. Depending on the model, there may be zippers, stapled sections, or separate parts. My sofa had a zipper underneath, and once I opened it, I was able to simply unscrew the side panels.

Step 4: Make sketches

For any parts that need sewing, measure each section carefully and draw a simple sketch. Make sure to include about 1 cm seam allowance. I cut the larger pieces directly on the sofa, which worked really well. It’s a good idea to keep your sketches so you can easily reupholster your sofa again in the future.

Step 5: Sewing (if needed)

Not every part needs to be sewn. In my case, only the side panels required it. I also lightly sewed the inner edges of the seat cushions, but that step is optional. You can simply place the fabric over and staple it directly. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can usually borrow one from friends or family.

Step 6: Upholstering & stapling

Now comes the most important part. Make sure your sofa has a wooden base so the staples can hold properly. Pull the fabric tightly over each section and work step by step as you secure it. It’s important to work evenly and keep smoothing the fabric as you go to avoid wrinkles. Place the staples close together so everything stays firm and secure.

Start by picking a low, accessible cubby unit — one your toddler can reach without stretching or climbing. The whole point of this setup is independence, and that starts with everything being at the right height. A floor-level cubby or a low shelf unit works perfectly. If it's something they'd need your help to reach, it defeats the purpose.

Step 2: Assign each section a purpose

Once you have your cubby in place, decide what goes where. Give each section or compartment a single, clear purpose — one for the jacket, one for mittens, one for the backpack, one for the lunchbox. Keeping it specific helps your toddler know exactly where to go when they're getting ready or packing up. No digging, no guessing.

Step 3: Add simple labels

Labels are one of the most underrated parts of this setup. Even before your child can read, simple labels — whether they're words, pictures, or a combination — help them recognise where things belong. It supports both routine-building and early literacy at the same time. Keep the labels clear and consistent, and update them as your child's reading skills grow.

Step 4: Use wicker baskets for smaller items

Smaller items like socks and underwear can get messy fast. Wicker baskets with lids are a great solution — they keep the smaller things contained, they look tidy, and they're easy for toddler hands to open and close. Tuck them into one of the cubby sections and label them just like the rest. It makes a surprisingly big difference in keeping the whole space from feeling cluttered.

Step 5: Keep it minimal and at toddler height

Once everything is in place, step back and ask yourself: can my toddler reach all of this on their own? Is there anything here that doesn't need to be? The goal is a setup that's easy to use every single day, so resist the urge to add extra items. A minimal, well-organised space is far more effective than a fully stocked one that feels overwhelming. And as your child grows, adjust the setup to keep up with them.

I've always wanted a hallway that felt intentional — moody florals, beadboard wainscoting, warm wood floors — but I was not about to spend a weekend with power tools and a nail gun. So when I found this beadboard wallpaper, everything changed. I redid this entire hallway with zero power tools, no glue, no nails, and honestly? It was a game changer.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Measure your wall height

First thing I did was figure out how high I wanted the beadboard to go. I knew I wanted to use a fun peel-and-stick print as the focal point above, so getting that split right was really important. I'd say a good starting point is one-third of your wall height — but I went a little higher for that bold, dramatic look I was going for. Mark a level pencil line all the way around before you touch anything else.

Step 2: Wet the adhesive and let it book

Cut your panel to length, then wet the adhesive side with a damp sponge or cloth. Fold it paste-to-paste — this is called booking — and let it sit for about 5 minutes. This is what activates the glue and relaxes the paper so it goes on smoothly. Don't skip this step, I promise it makes a difference.

Step 3: Apply the panels

Press the panel to the wall along your pencil line. What I loved most about this wallpaper is how forgiving it is — if your measurement is slightly off, you can just slide it while it's still wet. Use your smoothing tool to work out any bubbles from the centre outward, trim the edges with scissors or a craft knife, and butt each panel tight against the last so the grooves line up. It cuts so cleanly too, which I was not expecting.

Step 4: Paint straight over the wallpaper

Once everything is dry, you can paint directly over it — no primer needed, which honestly blew my mind. I used Sherwin-Williams Urbane Bronze in a flat finish and it gave the beadboard that deep, warm, built-in look I was after. Work the paint into the grooves with a small brush first, then roll over the flat sections. Two coats and you're done.

Step 5: Add trim and style the space

I added a decorative trim along the seam between the beadboard and the floral wallpaper to make the join look intentional and polished. Then came my favourite part — styling it with vintage art, gold frames, a slim console table, and a few plants. This is where it really came together.

At the beginning of the year, I wanted a vision board that would keep me inspired every day, but I also wanted something practical - a place where I could pin my daughter's photos, school reminders, personal goals, and meaningful memories, while still looking like home decor rather than something cluttered or distracting.

Instead of buying an expensive pinboard, I decided to make my own custom fabric pinboard. It's completely customizable, affordable, and easy to update throughout the year!

Step 1: Choose Your Board Size

Decide what size pinboard you want. I used a 30x40 canvas, which is a great size for hanging on a wall and displaying photos, notes, and inspiration.

Step 2: Staple The Batting

Lay your batting on a flat surface and place the canvas face down in the center. Make sure you have enough batting to wrap comfortably around to the back of the wooden frame. Pull the batting around the back of the board and secure it with a staple gun, working your way around all four sides. This layer adds softness and makes it easier to insert push pins.

Step 3: Secure Your Fabric:

After a quick iron to remove any creases, lay your fabric out and center the padded canvas on top. Just like the batting, wrap the edges around the back and staple. Focus on keeping the fabric tight to ensure a smooth, wrinkle free finish on the front.

Step 4: Hang and Style Your Pinboard

Once finished, hang your board and start pinning! I use mine as a vision board and memory board where I can display photos of my daughter, inspirational quotes, personal goals, school reminders, and meaningful memories. It's the perfect way to keep your "vision" front and center without sacrificing your home's aesthetic.

Final Thoughts

What We Were Looking For in Baby Toys

Our baby puts everything in his mouth, climbs on everything, and falls… a lot. Knowing his toys are made from safe, natural materials gave us peace of mind.

Second, active play instead of passive play.

Designing a little corner where creativity can truly thrive has become a favourite trend among modern parents—and for good reason. Kids don’t need huge playrooms or elaborate setups to make magic. Sometimes, all it takes is a thoughtfully designed space that invites them to draw, paint, and explore freely.

Inspired by a brilliant idea I discovered on Instagram, I knew I wanted to recreate a creative corner where my daughter could imagine, experiment, and grow artistically—without chaos taking over the house. The result is a simple, functional, and beautiful art station that blends seamlessly into our home while being completely kid-friendly.

Here’s exactly how you can create your own creative corner at home.

Step-by-Step

Step 1: Prepare the Base Layer

Start by installing a magnetic whiteboard sheet on the wall. This sits underneath the paper roll and serves two purposes: it protects the wall and allows you to use magnetic clips later. Make sure the sheet is wider than your paper roll. For example, our paper roll is 45 cm wide, so we chose a 70 cm wide magnetic sheet to give enough room on both sides.

Step 2: Install the Paper Roll Holder

Next, attach the IKEA MÅLA paper roll holder to the wall. We secured ours using small L-shaped brackets on each side to keep it firmly in place. The MÅLA holder comes with a red cutting edge, but we chose not to attach it so the paper could hang freely without interruption. When it’s time to cut the paper, scissors work perfectly and keep things simple.

We installed the paper roll holder at around 150 cm high, but this is completely flexible. The ideal height depends on your child’s age and how you want them to interact with the space. The goal is to make it accessible while still allowing the paper to roll down smoothly.

Step 3: Set Up Storage for Art Supplies

To keep everything tidy and within reach, we attached acrylic holders directly to the wall using strong, clear adhesive tape. These are perfect for storing crayons, pencils, and washable markers, and they make it easy for kids to grab what they need without help.

Step 4: Keep the Paper Steady

Magnetic clips are a simple but brilliant addition. They hold the paper securely against the magnetic sheet while your child draws or paints, preventing the paper from curling or moving mid-masterpiece.

Step 5: Add Easy-Wash Paint Plates

For painting, plastic plates work incredibly well. The ones from IKEA are lightweight, easy to clean, and durable enough for everyday use. Cleanup becomes quick and stress-free, which makes spontaneous creativity much easier to say yes to.

This setup encourages independence, creativity, and mess-controlled freedom. Everything is visible, accessible, and easy to clean, which means kids can focus on creating—and parents can relax knowing the space is practical and contained. It’s also adaptable. As your child grows, you can adjust the height, change the supplies, or expand the setup without starting from scratch.

Our downstairs toilet was, without a doubt, the worst room in the house. The wallpaper was awful, the skirting boards were riddled with woodworm, and both the sink and toilet were cracked, dated, and past their best. But the thing that bothered me most wasn’t even the condition — it was the layout. The sink was awkwardly shoved into the corner, making it impossible to place a mirror properly or create a space that felt intentional.

We knew something had to change.

There were plenty of raised eyebrows when we mentioned moving the sink to the front-facing wall. People worried the space would feel too tight or impractical, but they were wrong. Not only does it fit perfectly, it completely transformed how the room feels.

This makeover wasn’t just about aesthetics. We also had exposed pipework everywhere, with the toilet and sink both showing messy plumbing that made the room feel unfinished. This project became about fixing practical issues while creating a space that finally felt considered, cohesive, and genuinely beautiful.

Step-by-Step Cloakroom Makeover

Step 1: New Skirtings and Checkerboard Tiles

The first job was replacing the skirting boards, which were badly damaged by woodworm. At the same time, Josh was laying checkerboard tiles in the back hallway using red and white marble-effect porcelain tiles. We loved the look so much that we decided to run the same flooring into the cloakroom, boiler room, and coat cupboard to create continuity.

Josh did the tiling completely from scratch, levelling and smoothing the floor, finding the centre of the space, and laying all the full tiles first before working outward. Tile spacers helped keep everything even, and while we used both a guillotine cutter and an electric tile cutter, the electric cutter was far better for tricky cuts around doorways. Once everything was laid, we grouted with antique white, cleaned it back, and the transformation was instant. The space felt brighter, bolder, and far more practical — especially for muddy paws on wet days.

Step 2: Strip Back and Reposition Plumbing

Next, we stripped off the wallpaper, filled all the holes, and sanded the walls smooth. There were more holes than we expected, but taking the time here made a huge difference later.

The plumber then moved the sink from the corner to the front-facing wall, carving channels into the wall so all pipework could be hidden behind plaster. The toilet pipes were treated the same way. Instantly, the room felt cleaner and more intentional. Once the plumbing was sorted, Josh replastered the walls and sanded them back, ready for paint.

Step 3: Prep and Undercoat

Before adding any colour, we undercoated the entire room and did another round of filling and sanding. This stage isn’t glamorous, but in an older house where nothing is straight, it’s absolutely essential. Every extra bit of prep here pays off later.

Step 4: Adding Wall Mouldings

This is where the character really started to shine. We bought mouldings from B&Q and drew the layout directly onto the walls, planning square panelling with a slim dado-style rail through the centre. Because the sink is the first thing you see when opening the door, we started measuring from there.

Nothing in the room was square or symmetrical, so some of the panels became subtle rectangles to keep everything visually balanced. Each panel was built first, then fixed to the wall using wood glue and small nails. The wonky walls definitely made themselves known, and in some spots the mouldings needed to be propped up for a few days while setting. Once secure, we caulked every edge, corner, and join to create that crisp, finished look.

Step 5: Boxing in the Boiler Pipe

A large pipe running from the boiler room into the cloakroom wasn’t doing the space any favours. We built a removable MDF box to hide it, making sure it could still be accessed in the future if needed. It instantly made the room feel more polished and intentional.

Step 6: Painting and Colour Drenching

Then came the fun part. We chose Farrow & Ball Deep Reddish Brown, colour matched at B&Q using Valspar paint. It’s a rich, dark red that pairs beautifully with the checkerboard tiles. We went for a matt finish to help disguise imperfections while still keeping it wipeable — ideal for a downstairs loo. We colour drenched the entire room, including walls, skirtings, ceiling, and the boxed-in pipework. Because we’d undercoated in white, it took four coats to achieve the depth we wanted, but the result was absolutely worth it.

Tips and Things to Consider

• Start tiling from the centre of the room for visual balance
• Electric tile cutters are invaluable for awkward cuts
• Expect wonky walls in older homes and adjust panelling as you go
• Caulk everything for a professional finish
• Hide pipework wherever possible
• Dark colours over white primer need extra coats
• Always make boxed pipework removable

What started as the worst room in the house has become one of my absolute favourites. It’s bold, practical, and full of character — and for the first time, it actually works both visually and functionally.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking affordable IKEA furniture and turning it into something that looks completely custom. When Thornior reached out after seeing my DIY projects on Instagram, asking how I created this makeup vanity, I knew it deserved a full step-by-step breakdown.

This project is proof that you don’t need a huge budget to achieve a luxurious result. With a bit of planning, smart proportions, and thoughtful details, two IKEA Godishus dressers become a sleek, elevated makeup vanity that looks like it was designed specifically for your space. If you love functional furniture with a high-end feel, this DIY is absolutely for you.

Step-by

Step 1: Assemble the Dressers

Start by assembling both IKEA Godishus dressers according to the instructions, but stop before attaching the handles and floor supports. Leave the drawers unattached for now as well—this makes the later steps much easier and allows for a cleaner, more precise finish.

Step 2: Build the Platform Base

To elevate the dressers to a comfortable vanity height and give the piece a built-in look, create a platform using wooden beams cut to 12 cm in height. The beams should be cut to 60, 60, 35, and 35 cm. This base is what transforms the dressers from standard IKEA furniture into something that feels intentional and high-end.

Step 3: Attach the Dressers to the Platform

Once the platform is assembled, position each dresser on top and secure them from underneath using screws. This step is key for stability and ensures the vanity feels solid and professionally built rather than temporary or modular.

Step 4: Install the Panel Trim

Measure the bottom section of the vanity and cut the white floor panel slightly longer—about half a centimeter on each side. Cut the edges at 45-degree angles, similar to crown molding, to create a seamless wraparound effect. Attach the panel to the wooden base using strong adhesive, then seal all gaps with acrylic caulk for a smooth, built-in finish.

Step 5: Attach the Countertop

Place the Lagkapten tabletop on top of the dressers. The tabletop should be pre-cut to a depth of 42 cm, which is slightly deeper than the dresser to allow it to sit flush against the wall. Secure it with screws and leave an 80 cm gap between the two dressers—this creates perfect legroom and makes the vanity comfortable to use.

Step 6: Add the Handles

Finish the look by attaching your chosen handles. I went with delicate gold round handles that fit perfectly into the existing holes, instantly elevating the entire piece. This small detail makes a huge difference and is where you can really personalize the vanity to match your style.

And just like that, you have a custom makeup vanity that looks luxurious, intentional, and completely bespoke—without paying designer prices. This project is a perfect example of how smart IKEA hacks, combined with thoughtful details, can completely transform a space.

Step 1: Gather and Prep Your Frame

Start by gathering all your supplies in one place. If your frame is thrifted, give it a good clean first—dust, fingerprints, and old residue can get in the way later. Remove the glass and backing so you’re left with just the mat and frame structure.

Step 2: Cut and Attach the Fabric

Lay your fabric flat and place the mat from the frame on top. Cut the fabric so it’s slightly larger than the mat, leaving enough excess to wrap around the edges. Carefully pull the fabric taut and staple it along the very edge of the mat, working your way around and keeping the fabric smooth and wrinkle-free.

Step 3: Arrange Your Photos

This is the fun, sentimental part. Lay your photos out on the fabric-covered mat and play around with placement until it feels right. There’s no wrong way here—overlapping, neat rows, or a more casual collage all work beautifully depending on your style.

Step 4: Secure Everything in Place

Once you’re happy with the layout, lightly tape the photos down if needed to keep them from shifting. Reassemble the frame by placing the mat back inside, followed by the backing. Make sure everything sits flat and secure before closing it up.

After building our shelves in the last post, we really wanted to try something new. If you remember, we had to sand after applying the varnish because we left some pretty noticeable brush marks and patches. We loved the final result, but we weren’t too happy about how long it took to paint, and even less about having to sand and redo everything twice (making it take even longer).

We’d used the wrong brush, an honest beginner’s mistake. But that’s exactly what we are: beginners learning as we go. In any case, those pesky brush strokes inspired this new project. Since painting is one of the easiest and most effective ways to DIY and refresh any furniture, we thought this time we’d focus on achieving a smooth, even finish without the dreaded streaks.

A small secondhand pine TV stand became the perfect test subject, and it gave us the chance to try out, for the first time, something that promised to end brush marks, and save us a lot of time: a cordless paint sprayer.

We’ll admit—we were a little intimidated at first. Our “knowledge” of this tool came mostly from short reels online and it didn't look the easiest. But spoiler: we ended up being surprised at how simple and fast (and fun!) it made the whole project.

So whether you’re brand new to DIY or just curious about using a sprayer, this little makeover is for you. Here is all that we used for this project:

Step by Step

Step 1: Sand & Prep

Prep is where the magic begins. We gave the bench a once-over with coarse (120 grit) sanding to smooth out scratches and bumps, then followed with finer (240 grit) sanding to create a silky base for paint. Think of this as giving your furniture a fresh canvas.

After sanding, we wiped away all the dust and removed the knobs. Then came one of the most important (but often skipped) steps: masking. We carefully taped the drawer runners, inside edges, and even the floor around us. Why? Because just like when you paint with a brush or roller, you’ll want to cover the floor and protect anything nearby. The sprayer covers surfaces quickly, but anything nearby can get a fine mist if you’re not careful, A few extra minutes of prep made the whole spraying process smooth and stress-free. A few minutes of prep can save hours of cleanup later.

Step 2: Test the Sprayer

Before pointing the sprayer at the bench, we practiced—twice—on a scrap piece of cardboard. This was the moment we went from “a little nervous” to “oh, this is actually fun.” Adjusting the spray pattern and paint flow let us control how the paint came out, and within a couple of tries, it felt natural.

✨ Tips we learned fast:

• Keep the paint container topped up—when it runs low, the spray can get spotty.
• Start your spray slightly off the edge of the piece, then move across in one steady motion. This avoids heavy blobs at the beginning.
• Practice on scrap wood—it makes you more confident, and the finish on your actual piece will look much better.

Testing first took the pressure off. By the time we aimed at the bench, we felt ready.

Step 3: Paint in Layers

Now for the satisfying part. Holding the sprayer about 15–20 cm away, we moved in smooth, overlapping passes. The coverage was instant and it took just seconds! It was like “dusting” the paint on, you do thin layers and overlap each pass a little to get an even finish the thin coats builded up really nice.

We did two thin coats, letting the first dry completely (it took about 2 hours) before adding the second. This kept the finish smooth and avoided drips. Something we found really handy is that if the paint needed drying over night you could just put a lid on the container of the sprayer and leave it there and it won't go bad, this is perfect if you want to create your own shade of paint so you don't mix it twice and risk it not being the exact same color. Spraying both parts (as beginners who had no idea what they were doing) took under 20 minutes total, which means if you know what you are doing it will probably take half that time.

Step 4: Dry Time & Cleanup

We let the bench dry overnight before reattaching the hardware. Waiting might feel like the hardest part, but it’s worth it—the paint needs that time to set properly. You don't want to mess your perfect even and smooth paint job by getting to impatient.

Cleanup was what worried us the most, but the the sprayer came with it's own brush which made it surprisingly easy. We flushed the sprayer with warm water, used the brush to clear any residue, and it was ready to go again. The key is to do it right away—paint is much easier to wash out while it’s still wet.

The transformation amazed us. What was once a yellowed, scratched pine TV stand now looks modern, fresh, and smooth—all in no time and without the frustration of brush marks. This little tv-bench makeover was proof that DIY doesn’t need to be complicated. With the right prep and a little confidence, you can give old furniture a whole new life.

Are you ready to give your entryway a glow-up without blowing your budget? Let me walk you through how I created a stylish, renter-friendly, tiled doormat for under £50 in just one weekend. Spoiler alert: It’s easier than you think, and it looks SO much more expensive than it actually is!

Whether you’re a DIY newbie or a seasoned pro, this project is fun, functional, and totally doable. Plus, it’s completely removable for renters who want to add a little wow factor without upsetting the landlord, or if you’re like me and don’t like to fully commit to tiling your actual floor, this is perfect for you! Here’s everything you need to know to create your own.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Measure Twice, Cut Once

Start by measuring the area where your doormat will go. I wanted mine to be removable (because I love to change my mind and also would be amazing for renter life too), so I made sure the plywood base fit perfectly in the space without being fixed to the floor.

2. Prep the Plywood

Cut your plywood to size or have it trimmed at the store (most places will do this for free!). Sand down any rough edges for a smooth finish.

3. Lay Out Your Tiles

Before grabbing the grout, have a play with the layout of your tile squares. This step is basically like doing a giant jigsaw puzzle—except the finished product looks way cooler.

4. Time to Grout

Mix your grout and apply it to the plywood base. Press the tiles firmly into place, ensuring they’re level and evenly spaced. Wipe away any excess grout as you go (trust me, it’s easier to do this now than later).

5. Add Tile Edging

This £3 superstar gives your doormat a clean, polished edge that looks high-end but takes almost no effort. Simply measure, cut, and attach it around the edges.

6. Paint your slogan!

If you want to personalize your doormat, what do you want your doormat to say!? You can play around with word choice, type text and colour for this! I used Pinterest to get some ideas here and planned it all out with little cut offs of tape. Now’s the time to break out that £4 tile paint tester. Add some subtle details or keep it classic—it’s totally up to you!

7. Let It Dry

Patience is key! Let everything set and dry overnight so it’s durable and ready for action.

The Results

I can’t even tell you how happy I am with how this turned out! From the bare plywood to a chic tiled doormat in one weekend—it’s a total transformation. The tiles add such a polished look, and the fact that it’s removable makes it the perfect DIY doormat for the fellow non committer and a renter-friendly hack.

This little project was proof that DIY doesn’t have to be intimidating (or expensive). Honestly, if I can do it, so can you!

That’s why we decided to take matters into our own hands and transform a standard IKEA Pax wardrobe into a stunning built-in closet and at the same time make it into a room divider so we can create a home office at the same time—all on a budget! With just a few simple materials and some patience, we achieved a sleek, high-end finish that blends perfectly with the rest of the room. If you’re looking to upgrade your storage without breaking the bank, this DIY is for you!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Secure the Base

To ensure stability, start by screwing squared timber to the back of the wardrobe. This will provide a solid base to attach the plasterboard and create the built-in effect.

Step 2: Attach Plasterboard Panels

Measure and cut the plasterboard panels to fit around the wardrobe, then attach them securely. This step helps blend the Pax unit into the wall for that built-in look.

Step 3: Seal & Fill the Joints

Use scrim tape to cover the joints between the plasterboard panels. Apply a generous amount of filler over the tape to smooth out any gaps. Be thorough here—if too little filler is applied, you may sand too much, accidentally exposing the tape.

Step 4: Sand for a Flawless Finish

Once the filler is dry, sand down the joints carefully. The more even your surface, the better your final paint job will look. Take your time to avoid any visible imperfections.

Step 5: Prime the Surface

Apply a deep penetration primer over the entire structure. This helps the paint adhere properly and ensures a long-lasting, even finish.

Step 6: Add Decorative Mouldings

To enhance the built-in effect, cut decorative mouldings to size and attach them using adhesive. This small detail makes a huge difference, giving your wardrobe a high-end, custom appearance.

Step 7: Paint and Enjoy!

The final step is painting! Choose a color that blends with your walls for a seamless, built-in look. Be sure to allow enough drying time between coats.

This project took about two weeks to complete while balancing a full-time job, but the end result was absolutely worth it! The wardrobe now looks like a custom-built feature rather than a simple IKEA unit, and at the same time acts as a room divider, creating the perfect area for my new home office!.
